Hi, I have the Losi 8ight-T 1.0 and starter box, but cannot seem to get it working... before the starter wheel makes sufficient contact with the flywheel the starter wheel has hit against the chassis causing it to stall...
It is a standard flywheel and engine mount I have fitted. I had same problem starting a friend's 8ight-T 2.0 as well...

you might try looking on the website I saw somewhere in the setup sheet area they where talking about modifying the chassis for starter box wheel problems. I've had to do that sereral times over the years on various buggies I've owned.
heres the link for thie info on the buggy is this possibly the problem your having. scroll down the page.

I looked there but think it only applies to third party starter boxes... wouldn't have expected Losi's own starter box would have this problem??
Anyone from Team Losi care to comment?

Thanks, that's a very interesting tip, that's exactly how i was trying to start it, I was always holding the front... I will try it tonight just pushing down on the engine...

Taz - great find I forget that people use the wing as a handle & try to start them that way I've just always used the glow ignitor myself & pushed down on the engine.

OK, I've tried that tip and found that if I loosen the glow plug 2 turns then it can turn the flywheel but not sure if it's enough to start the engine but I think the starter wheel must still be rubbing the chassis somewhere...
I'll try starting the engine on Saturday...
If you look on page 2 of the manual, it has the same instructions for widening the flywheel opening. For whatever reason, I've seen guys that didn't have to do anything and others that did.
Those pegs are not perfect either. I noticed on my buggy that I had to have the car resting fully on the back pegs and for the truck, I had to make sure it was seated as far forward as possible.

Are you also using the Losi starter box? Did you have to do anything to widen the opening on the chassis? I thought that would only be necessary for third party starter boxes?
The strange thing is that I can start it fine no problem with my friends SMD Evolution starter box, so it must be 1 of 2 problems:
1. Starter box motor not strong enough.
2. Positioning wrong.
I see in the video, the guy was able to push right down and the starter motor is spinning without contact with the flywheel, but if I push right down the starter wheel would hit against the chassis no matter how I position it??
Apart from the larger motors, are there any other differences with the Losi 2.0 starter box? Are the starter wheels the same?

I've found with the two Losi boxes I've had I had to adjust the alignment of the wheel, both ways. Now the buggy has to be pushed forward, and truggy needs to be pushed back, but they both work great now.

How do you adjust the wheel alignment?
How does a worn out starter wheel affect things?

there's screw's in the bottom of the box for forward/backwards movement...and if the wheel is worn down it will have a hard time getting up in the chassis to touch the flywheel....You Can shim the whole motor cage Up if need be....but i doubt the wheel is worn that bad.

Thanks, I'll try adjusting the position... if the flywheel is worn out, then would that cause it to rub against the chassis more??

No you just have to adjust the wheel position with the truck pushed all the way back....the wheel should not touch the chassis if everything is lined up properly.

OK, after over an hour of fiddling around I think I've finally got it in the right position... I've put a washer between the motor cage and the case to raise the starter wheel a little, will probably need replacing soon and I've adjusted the cage position so that it doesn't touch the chassis when it is lowered (it still touches if lowered completely without flywheel though). It is turning the engine over properly when I loosen the glow plug 1 turn so I guess the battery must be almost dead by now, reading 11.8V...
By the way, is the starter wheel supposed to move back and forth slightly? I see there is a very slight gap between the two e-clips...
Will try to start the engine on Saturday, fingers crossed! Thanks for all the help guys!
