Hey guys what tires are on your rigs most of the time and what situation do you use the other losi tires? I would guess most of the time comp claws? and how about foams.
Thanks

I like to run the Comp Claws front and rear. Front foam is a mix between Losi Memory about 1-1/2 or just one and maybe a slice of Grey on the outside for more sidewall support. In the rear I tend to run stiffer foam, the Grey foam from the Rock Claws are perfect for this. No need to trim the foam just shove it in and make sure it doesn't get smashed by the beadlock ring.
The Comp Claw is the norm for just about every situation and competition. The other Losi tires work, just not the same as the Comp Claws when competing.

Thanks Jay. Is that Losi grey? And I think you are saying 1 or 1 1/2 memory foam stuffed in to the tire. Are you cutting strips out of the memory to get that other 1/2 in there?

Yup the Losi Grey cut into strips about 3/8" to 1/2" thick for the outside of the front tires. I run 1-1/2 memory in the front so one full foam and cut another in half, sometimes I add a 3/8" Grey outside ring for sidehill support.
Hope this helps Casey.

ok thanks Jay now I have a visual! do you glue them together as well? or rely on the tire to kinda hold everything together?

1.9 Flatirons with cut down 2.2 PL. 2 stage memory foams. they are on my mrc. They are usaly run on moss rock, granite, sandstone, and all the other rocks you find in a desert. the claws that came on the mrc are allright. but i am sure the blue claws are better. Might be my next choice after my FIs wear out

We don't glue them together like the racing foams. Not enough speed to create a wobble at high speeds. Plus we stuff so much in that it's hard for all the foam to shift around.

Anyone use the carvers much? If so what rocks have you seen them work best on.

We do use them on certain terrain mostly on the front for more steering. They don't have the forward bite like the Comp Claws but the sidehill and steering is more consistant.

I see the Hot Bodies Rover Whites are a popular choice for competitive crawlers these days. Would that type of taller tire work with the narrow rim of the Comp Crawler? I was thinking that one would use the Proline two stage foam for support. Is Losi thinking about a taller Comp Claw design?

I use HB Rovers in front and RockClaws in rear. Rovers are almost 2cm bigger and that way I get speeddifference to front- and rearalxes. Also wheelspeed with 17,5T with 14T pinion and Rovers is just nice.

Boss Claws baby! :D
But until those come out... I love my comp claws. In the fronts I run Losi memory foam with a 1/4" slice of standard foam on the outside for more sidewall support. In the rear I'm running a full standard foam with a small v-cut down the center.

Is anyone using the pro line chisels with a 2 stage foam:confused: I was thinking it would be a good setup.

The Proline guys at the Worlds ran the Chisels but not sure what foam they used. Scott Hughes made the top 25 with the tires and had good results with them at Donner.

These are just some tires we put together from some Comp Claw sides and Losi Eclipse off-road tires.

How did you make the v-cut on the standard foam? And what did you use for slicing the standard foam?

I use the Comp Claws with homemade memory foam in the front wheels and the gray foam (unaltered) in the rear wheels.
I also took my meat slicer and sliced the outside 1/2 inch of the gray foams that came in the front, I use that slice on the outside of the memory foam to stiffen the sidewall.
Custom made 8oz lead weights in the front wheels and custom made 2.75oz weights in the rear and it's a climbing machine!! :D

When I see "meat slicer", I see one of those deli type of slicers for cold cuts. Is that what you're using?

Whats the purpose of the foam, from my mrc it seems so stiff it doesnt look like the tire forms to the surface and looses alot of traction. Ive taken out all the foam and it now flattens better against rocks. More like real rock crawlers where they lower the pressure severely for more surface area. Now I haven't tried memory foam but the stock foam that came with the truck seemed to stiff. So far I haven't had any problems running without the foam but it would be best if I make my wheels a real beadlock to really test this out.
Im just under the impression that the truck is very light and the more surface area I can get the better. Im still using the stock tires and have added wheel weights. Im also going to try different shock oil to see if that helps with traction. I had changed them to 50w but im thinking of going around 20-25.
Funny thing, my dad just bought some pro line chisels and I can see why the memory foam is needed for those, they are super soft and weak without the foam. I also at the same time bought some real losi beadlock wheels and now use foam in them. It seems they connect to the tire differently then the glue on type and without the foam they bounce like a ball. Next I will get some new tires that are softer, im still using the stock type.
