I just ordered the new LST XXL Losi Monster Truck becase a new track just opened up here in Canada and many of the racers\bashers are Monster Truck drivers so I thought I would get one to hit a couple of there club races and lend them a hand!

I am just staring out the window here at work looking for that UPS guy to arrive!!

They are basically the same as the LST2.... You will be very happy.:)

They're a good bit faster than an LST2.. First, the engine is a 28 instead of the Mach 427(=26), but most important the gearing in the transmission is different, bringing a good chunk of increased speed.. I just put an XXL transmission in my LST2 (with LRP Spec 3 and +1 pinion, stock wheels, RPM's, NE roll-bar, etc..), and it flies...

The XXL tranny is especially good for racing I think, because with the LST2, when you change the wheels to something more suitable for racing, your gearing gets thrown WAAAYY off, so you end up having to use a +2 or even +3 CB.. The new tranny makes gearing options easier IMO...

And like I said, if you've got an LST2 and want some more top end, throw in an XXL tranny..

Here's mine:

So do you run the forward only?

In my racer, yes(with gear flip..), but here in the LST2 I just threw in an XXL tranny..., reverse and all..

I rum the forward only with the gear flip and I am getting the xxl tranny to increase top speed and when the blue head mach wears out I will be getting the 454 and then it should do about 52 53 mpd al least according to a member on another site

For me personally, with stock ATX LST2 tires and an LRP28S3, the truck seems kind of doggy. I have a heavily upgraded aftershock and recently swapped out my traxxas 2.5 chevron tires for the LST2 stock tires. I was running the gear flip mod and a +3 bell before the tires. Now with the gear flip, stock bell and LST2 tires, it just seems really labored in comparison. Lost a lot of it's snap/quickness that I liked when comparing to my savage.

I'd like to see it with the XXL top gearing, but a 3 speed trans with a hair lower 2st and a hair taller 2nd than the current first... Considering how the truck is designed, a 3-speed would require some support hanging out beside the trans to keep the shaft from tweaking, but then you could gear it as it is, but still have a responsive truck.

I've swapped the LST2 tires out for a buddies set of muggy wheels/tires and it's better, but still not as snappy. I'll more than likely switch back to what I had and deal with the constant hard bottoming out. The only sucky part is that the larger tires roll through grass better... those are the two reasons I tried the larger wheels/tires in the first place.

Hi nw to the forums and have a quick question. I have a used lst2 and the couple times i used it the back righthand wheels strips out and spins the nut off. It has a 17mm hex adapter kit, it has done it now with two types of wheels. is it something that i'm doing wrong or what?? I did use thread lock the last time and it still happened. Thanks.

olds, when I had a +2CB with stock LST2 tranny, stock wheels, and LRP Spec 3, it was a bit punchier on the bottom end, and still had a nice top end for bashing. Perfect really.. Now I have a +1 CB with XXL tranny, and it is a bit weaker on the bottom, but has a fantastic middle and top end.. Yeah, who needs such a screaming top end in an MT? But the middle is where it's at too. As soon as it shifts it just takes off REALLY nicely.. Good for powering through grass or rough stuff.. I REALLY like the effect of the XXL tranny.. A stock CB for me now would probably be ideal.. As is I could probably tighten up the slipper a notch and get more punchiness down low - I have the slipper set loose though cuz I'm more into jumping..

If you really want more punch down low, then I would suggest maybe a +1 CB, XXL tranny, and......................................... an LRP 30... ;-)

(I love my 28 though..)

LST2's are notorious for needing threadlock on the wheel nuts.. Put a bit of blue threadlock on the nut, and let it sit a few hours before running..

I have the 454 and installed the xxl gears in my LST2 transmission.. the rest of the truck is stock.. The thing FLIES, I would consider it perfect. The 454 runs awesome. The 427 I had never ran this good. I run the HPI black teflon clutch shoes and springs which gives a little early engagement so the truck doesn't flip on its back so quickly...great control. I love the way the machine now. :):):):)

Hi Guys,
You have to take the tire size into consideration when calculating the gear ratio. If you go +1 or +2 on the CB it's like starting out in 2nd or 3rd gear with the stock tires. Now if you put smaller tires on it you will get your acceleration back as the tire travels less distance per revolution which is like running a slightly lower gear. I have an old LST that has been updated wit LST2 parts. When we go to the dunes I run paddles and tighten up the two speed to keep it in low gear longer. Like grass and weeds, the sand really puts a big strain on the engine so you have to keep it buzzing and a little rich or the engine will overheat quickly. The roost is really impressive!
Have fun!

I got mine last month but haven't had a chance to run it much, although when I did it was giving me the overheat warning even without the body. What would be the max temp you guys would say that's enough and shut it down? I don't want to burn it.

Thanks

Losi informed me that a safe temp margin is 240 - 260 degrees. So I reset my temp warning to 240 and have been having nothing but fun ever since. Me, personally.... I shut down @ 260 or a little before, never over 260 though.

Taz I think you'l find the 427 is just a bit over .26ci. 427 is 4.27cc,

The 454 isn't a .54ci?? it is a 4.54cc or a bit under .28ci. (not trying to be cheeky)

And the threadlock is a good idea, first outing mine threw a wheel so now they are Loctite'd on and I've never lost one since.

Its a new lst xxl and from day one its had a hard time staying in gear . It will pop into neutral.
I sent it to the factory anf they said it was fixed but it did the exact same thing. Now i have a new xxl tranny to install because I think the gears are stripped from popping out so much .
Should I just put the new tranny in ?

Increase your 3rd channel EPA settings so more force is put on shift arm to hold in gear. Might need a little WD40 on it I worked on a truck that had this problem cause the guy ran through lots of water. If it still does it, unless reverse is absolutely critical for your bashing, go with a forward only kit especially if your going to race it. Truck has insane speeds with reverse out. I race mine and I took it out short walk to turn around truck when up against something but well worth it when it pulls truggies in second gear.

zoraduntov
05-09-2010, 06:40 PM
Ok , I've managed to keep it from popping out of gear by setting the end points to travel further . New problem is the slipper clutch gets loose so I tighten it then the nut strips . This has happened 4 times . What do I do now ?

zoraduntov
05-09-2010, 07:07 PM
I forgot to mention that the truck reved up high and it barely moved so I thought it was a loose slipper . That's what caused the situation stated above . After it was tightened , the truck ran good for 3 minutes then gradually stopped moving .

slim
05-10-2010, 08:50 AM
If it revved up but barely moved, instead of the slipper, it could be the clutch on the engine.

zoraduntov
05-10-2010, 09:57 AM
But when the slipper is tight the truck is fine. I will check the clutch though . That might be it . It doesn't pop out of gear anymore .

zoraduntov
05-10-2010, 12:44 PM
It's fixed . I didn't assemble the slipper properly . It's done now and running great .

made some covers to go between the front and rear new era skid plates and under the centre plate. To do this I kept the stock centre plate on the truck, put the gal tin between it and the hd centre plate so I can still protect the pipe and slipper. I used the new era plates as template and put the tin over top using the same screws, going under would have effected the steering servo's. To remove the stock front and rear plates and keep the New Era Skid plates smooth and flush with the chassis rail I needed to file the notch that holds the stock plates. It's very solid and with a little grease between the plates and the tin, no vibration noise. Should stop the rocks, stones and dirt out of the drivetrain, tranny and servo's. see pic's

Thanks mate, for the cleaning of the chassis I have allowed gaps for dirt removal with air gun at the rear of each skid plate (yes that link you put up takes you to the new era products I've used). It gets it clean enough until I have to pull it apart, it's still only a few screws anyway. I took it out for a bash today in very wet, muddy conditions and flogged the truck, had a ball and under the body has remaind rather clean, undamaged and dry, hit it with the air gun between all the holes in the chassis rails and got it clean enough. The air filter is nothing special, just a bit of foam, don't know what brand, they do the job.
See attached pics to see the cleaning spaces.
Im very happy with it!!!!!!!!!

thanks again, your right about the screws, I landed on the front bumper/skid plate and the front 4 screws poped out and have threaded. I have purchashed some stainless steel timber screws just a fraction larger than the stock ones and plan on useing those as I think with more bite and slightly longer and with a little loctite, Im hoping they will hold.

Another quick newbie question? Tires and Wheels? Wondering weather to go with 17mm hex for a larger range of wheels. I also have seen the cen 55 series with the 23mm hex but I just don't know what would be better, I would like somemore pick up and speed but I still only bash no racing. What wheels give the truck more pick up, which ones for top end speed and what are good all rounders? I don't care if I have to get a few different set ups but I just need to know as I only have the net to help me(no local hobby shop)

I bought some losi 1/8 Truggy wheels and tires and 17mm hex's and tried them out this morning, NO GOOD!! no top end at all, the truck was awsome of the start, very zippy handeling and they weigh 1 kilo less than the stockies but as soon as the truck would get to speed that would normally shift to second it would sound like the tranny was working extreamly hard and was peaking, to much of a gear ratio change for me to keep trying so I swapped back.

I think I'll go for some Cen 55 Snipers, anyone know the weight of these????????

I picked up a skate ramp and went for a bash with the stock wheels, love the ramp. Started out small and within a couple of tanks started to get the thoughts of backflips. I hit the skate ramp at about 3/4 throttle and landed my first attempt, very excited I went for more and more, landing less and less. After landing about a dozen and crashing about the same amount I had a very heavy landing on the rear of the truck, upside down. I broke the wing off just under the pins, I split my body in a few places and I bent the tower plate to about 45 degree angle ripping the stock screws from my rear skid plate. On a good note, the stainless steel timber screws that I have begun replacing the stripped stock skid plate screws with held strong with only a fraction of movment, the rear plate only had two of these in the holes closest to the tranny and I think they held the mess together.
Just finishing off the repair and I will be replacing every skid plate screw with the s/s timber's and lock tight.
Love the back flips but they sure are alot of fiddly work when you dont get them right!

I just painted up my first new body, I used the HPI Savage Chev El Camino body and it fit pritty well, I had to leave the wheel arches in in order to protect the servo's, motor and electronics but I think it came up alright. The shell being a tad short works well as the wing mount fits without chopping a space in the body. See pic's.

I just put on my new Moab XL's, upgraded the air fliter to a Motor Saver, done the FOC with the gear flip, put in the finned engine mount and pulled the truck down to replace all the bearings with another set of Avids, I got about 9 litres of fuel with the first set which are still good enough for most of them to go into a bag to be used as back up if I ever run out. I have to order a diff ring and pinion set as I've stripped the pinion running it with no 13mm shim so I'll go the tini to give them a try. Can't wait to get it screaming again to try out the new wheels and FOC/gear flip.

P.s. Taz1175, the home made skid plate are great when bashing in the mud but a pain in the butt when running day to day, so Ive pulled them back off to loose some weight. The stainless steel timber screws I use in the New era skid plates are working a treat, they don't move at all and are easier to remove with a phillips head driver.

I had to make up another bumper today, this one to fit my Chevy body. The new bumper is more slim line, weighs less and fit with both my bodies. I also re designed the front support bracket so it'll work with both bumpers and changing them is as easy as three bolts.

What are the signs of a bad clutch ? I think I have one . I give it gas and it will pause a second then move . My other monster truck LST2 , instantly takes off when given gas .

After learning a lesson in painting bodies (I used Tamyia "TS" paints instead of the "PS") and a few days of scratching off the paint I've resprayed the body with new colors. I've also finished off my wing design, came up alright. It takes a good lid landing and if it does bend out of shape a little, it's easy enough to bend it back into shape without loosing a heap of drive. I've ordered an LRP ZR.30 pullstart engine and a new pipe, should get it this week. I'll get a video going soon.

you'll need to bookmark www.overdriverc.com and you'll find everything you can get and things you may need.
I'd suggest a 2nd rx battery pack and upgrade the stock one to get longer runtimes. Get yourself some HD outdrive cups for your diff's( losa3503 ), I broke a few of the stock ones and since I got the hd I'm yet to break one. Get some RcRaven springs and a set of good, lightweight wheels and tires eg. Proline Moabs on Tech5 rims or Trencher tires on a light rim. The options are endless with upgrades and just incase you don't know all the LST2 parts fit the XXL.
Have fun!!!!!!!!

Hi i have a question. After running for not so long it says on the radio that the engine is overheating. It says 235f, but on my tempgun it says that it is around 150f. The top of the engine head doesnt seem as hot as 235f and i think my temp gun is quite accurate. I also used the temp gun on other places on the engine than the top of the engine head and it says around 150f. When the engine is completly cool it says 75f on both the sensor and the tempgun. How accurate is the sensor? Is it too lean or is the sensor wrong?

There the same size as the 40 series tires. The 420 and hpi 40s are the same size. Look on my pics. I just bought me some hpi blast rims and there the same size as my xxl rims!

So wat has more top end, the stock xxl tranny or a tranny wit forward only with flipping the gears spots.?
what about a forward only xxl tranny with gear flip?

the xxl tranny has a real short first and a high second. It will push that beast about 45 to 50 so the stock xxl tranny will do just fine.

Let me ask you this do you bash more than anything? If you do you'll want to keep reverse. Trust me it comes in handy and I would know lol.

I put in the kit to take reverse out of the xxl, and out a new slipper clutch set up, brand new spur gears. I was running it down the street, and the motor rev'ed up, bit it didn't move very good. I hold up the rear end and both tires move in the opposite direction, just like they should and same with the front. not really sure what to do here. need some help

I finally thought I'd try out a set of diff crushers, Cen chevy's 7.7". They handle well and look good, I like them so far. I went for a run today and had a blast until my 6 year old son "popped" a diff by going wheely mad with no control. Oh well, they needed a service anyway. Here's a few pics.

Hey guys,

Just got myself a XXL truck and love it to bits but on the last tank of today, managed to somehow lose that scrub screw and knew it when the brakes didnt work :O

Just few question:

1) Is the brakes suppose to make a grinding/binding noise since they metal? (I just push it on neutral then press break hard)

2) Also is the spring in the break linkage compressed or does it have a gap of free play?

3) What is your break travel set as in the controller?

4) I hate the idea of exposing the servo and the underside of the truck exposed, i was looking at the parts
The HEAVY DUTY series:
HD Hard Anodized Main Chassis Plate ... LOSB2260
HD Center Skid Plate ... LOSB2261 <-----
HD Top Plate ... LOSB2262
HD Front Bottom Plate ... LOSB2263 <-----
HD Rear Bottom Plate ... LOSB2264 <-----

Couldnt find much info about that, like screws or pictures of how they look under the car.

Do them 3 parts completely cover the bottom of the truck, servo and shafts etc? Also what screws do you use for them and any modification needed on a stock xxl truck to mount the three? or just a simple screw on?

Also notice the high performance lightweight parts too but cant seem to find pics of them mounted, dont know if they cover much of the bottom if they had to cut weight?

Much appreciated if you guys can help me with bit of info.
Thanks alot guys.

Hi.

To answer your question about the bottom plates. No they do not cover the whole bottom of the truck but a fair portion of it. Your servos will be covered tho.

Now the grub screw issue. I tell everyone who just got the truck to take third out and put some lock tight on the screws and let it sit for two hours. I had the same problem as you did. You don't want t to have the breaks to tight they'll cause your truck to stop moving or when you apply the breaks it will flip LOL. Very powerful breaks.

Hi, sorry for the spelling is google traslate, just bought on Friday February 17, 2012 my losi xxl, from time to look forward to my truck, since I live in Venezuela. Well I tell the story, first acquired the deluxe kit that comes with the charger 12v. the same wine is bad for a bad start, ok as I could buy a charger here to redress the wrong time and charge my batteries and servo the starter, ok second, and having everything ready to make the shoot to manual motor starter after to give a maximum of 5 times the damage, there was solved with the electric starter. Then make it your static filming will take the smooth ride and the wheel goes around, apparently I miss some of the wedges the pin of the plateau, here solvent buying him the wedge, this day my losi lit to enjoy a time with friends and after 2 tanks xxl stopped working the throttle servo and brake, bone from Friday 17 to this day I have only eaten at the losi xxl 6 including 4 tanks were static and 2 moving and stay inoperative, really is not for nothing but the losi xxl left me looking bad at all now I'll have to see the moster sent back to the supplier in the U.S. to see q step there, and yet that but how costly consignment to pay back to Venezuela and USA under warranty is hard to really have a quality product that is according to both problems have less than a week, finally some electronica as do the test and servo cash is damaged but apparently the receiver or control does not work, do not go out acceleration and brake signal receiver, well sorry for the speech but I'm really unhappy with a barbarian greetings

I got my lst xxl yesterday! I've been out of the hobby for a few years and want to dive back in. I'm having problems with the forward/reverse servo, sometimes it won't work at all and the rest of the time it seems to keep putting its self in reverse with out me doing anything. I even unhooked the servo from the receiver and of course it still vibrates back to reverse! Thought I had it figured out, thought it was a loose wire and it started worked properly until I started the truck and now it's back to messing up.

I'm scared to run the truck to fast because I don't want to damage the transmission if it does switch on me. Anyone else ever seen this?

well now the reverse servo wouldn't work, did a reset on the transmitter and it's working again. then i go and start it up and it's back to the servo not working again and/or switching on it's own. :(

it may just be a bad servo, just noticed now that even though it's not working it is humming.

I just bought an LST XXL and it is awsome. I have had a few things that need to be worked out like the spin start did not work, but after I called Losi they sent me a new one in 2 days(GREAT SERVICE) Truck is really fun to drive and the controller is very nice. I have not had any problems and if I do, horizon which handles the warranty of the truck said to call them and they will take care of it. The Lst XXL is a big bad 4x4 that is fun to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
