Hi all,
First off great forum - this is my first post but i've been reading it every day for ages.
I own a Losi 8ight-e 2.0 with the Xcelorin ESC. I recently upgraded the firmware and my software to the latest versions (sept 1 firmware and ver 3.0 s/w)
I've always ran a non-linear throttle and break curve which have always worked fine for me. However, after upgrading I can't get the brake curve to work properly. If I set the brake limit to 0% in the general tab and set a nice ramping curve in the brake menu my brakes lock up at when given a slight amount of breaking and go to zero brakes at full brake command from the transmitter (almost like it's backwards). If I set the brake limit in the general tab to 50% the braking works as expected but I can only get 50% of my total brakes - and it can't be set to 100%. Is anyone else having trouble with the new firmware ? I’m considering down grading back to the old firmware and s/w just because it works...
I've tried re-caling the transmitter to the ESC (ie full throttle / full brake) It doesn't help.
Thanks again for any input!
Regards,
Jeff T

I believe your issue is a bit different than Skiev and mine as our issue is that the ESC applies full brakes after letting go of the reverse throttle when in reverse.
However, I'd like a copy of the old firmware as well please. This reverse and breaking issue is not good at all.

Hey Sorry - I couldn't find the cable to connect my USB external HDD to my lappy last night. I'm sure the firmware for the ESC is on my backup HDD. I'll have a better look tonight.
Has anyone ever downgraded their firmware before ? It says in the manual to contact Losi before downing a downgrade... ????
Is there a Losi employee here who can comment on this issue ?

Jeff

We did not experience this problem in our testing and have been unable to repeat it thus far. Obviously it is a problem for many of you so we will continue to look in to this and post a solution as soon as possible.

Hey Thanks for the update - very much appreciated!!
Take it easy and looking forward to some new firmware. If it helps at all I here are my settings:
Battery: Lipo 5S default
Brake/Rev: Forward with pause and rev
Throttle limit: 0%
Rev limit: 50%
Motor Timing: High
Initial Acceleration: High
Braking percent: 50% ( this is the max avail in the s/w menu)
Drag Brake: 0%
Legacy
Neutral Deadband: 4
Custom throttle curve (set to curve)
Custom Brake curve (set to curve)
Thanks again,
Jeff

I dunno, but maybe the issue is the state of the profiles when the firmware is upgraded? I know I had my profiles set to "Forward pause then reverse" and "legacy" controller when I upgraded. Maybe having the settings set a certain way when the firmware is upgraded causes the issue? I just received my 8ight-E 2.0 about 1 week ago and it had the firmware on it that shipped with it. Not sure which one it is.
Try putting an older firmware on the ESC, like one that would ship with a new 8ight-E 2.0, then perform the upgrade process with "Forward, pause then reverse" and "legacy" for the controller.
In the meantime, is there an older copy of the ESC we can install to correct this issue?

I have been able to replicate the problem here using both the new firmware (2.2) and the previous firmware (2.0) and also using both v3.0 and v2.0 of the PC Setup Software. There appears to be a bug associated with the throttle profile that is affecting the braking performance. We will continue to work to find a solution to this problem, but here are two potential workarounds in the meantime:
1. Use the standard linear throttle profile and low or mid initial acceleration to smooth out the bottom end. This will give you 100% brakes and you won't experience the brake lock up problem.
2. Set braking percent to 20%-50%. This will allow you to use a custom throttle curve, but will limit total braking.
For those having braking problems in reverse, downgrading the firmware to v2.0 will resolve this. However, you will lose the ability to select low and mid initial acceleration. I have been able to successfully downgrade with no problems thus far. If you are interested in receiving v2.0 of the firmware send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send it to you.
Sorry you all are having problems with this. We should have found this during our testing of the new firmware and PC Setup Software. We are working to find a solution to this problem and will let you know when we do.

Very thanks!
I tried to downgrade firmware 2.0 but the reverse issue (brake 100%) not resolve :-(
I posted you my address if you can send me a correct firmware.
