my 454 engine has had one gallon of 20% ran thru it it ran fine just alittle on the hot side like 240's and i just switched to 30% fuel and idled thru one tank then ritchened it up a little more and ran the second tank in the yard getting on the throttle about half the time, it got really hot quick like 265 so i richened it more and still staying 240's what else an i do to the engine to cool it off more? do i need the turbo head when running 30% on this engine? if so how many shims. also what glow plug works best for 30% nitro i am running the plug losi said to run in the manual its a med plug, and help would be awsome also would the stock pipe have anythig to do with it running hot?

Get the RE11 or RE10 pipe. I think the RE10 is better for the truggy

Most of the time you should add a .1mm head shim when going up 10% nitro. I know on my engines I add a .1mm head shim and use cold plugs for 30%.

i switched o 30 % nitro and added one head shim and its still running in the 240-260 range should i add one more head shim, or will a new pipe cool it down or what else can i do to get the temp down?

240's are ok for a motor to run as long there is still smoke dont tune by temp tune by how the motor runs. take a look at this ..

I think one thing people need to add when they are having engine issues is posting where they are. Sea level or a mile high in altitude. This can also determine how many shims they need to use.

i am near sea level here in savannah ga and am running one stock shim and one additional shim, medium plug and of course 30% nitro and its still hot even the water test shows hot at times, i dont trust the telementry temp cause its always high i just toook it off.

From what i have seen on the 454 is 240 degrees is ok. Does your engine feal like it has good power? Any miss fires or back fires? If the engine is running well than leave it be. You could add a pipe to see if it helps. You could add the turbo head but from my experince if the engine is running well and temps and smoke seem right let it be.

Just for it at that temp

My V-spec comes off the track in Savannah at 230-240 and it runs great

I heard that engine likes to run a little hot so I think you'll be fine, I personally wouldn't change the plug if I were you

Next time we have a club race come find me if you need any help, I can tune an engine not to bad

and it also sounds like it's not "fully" broken in to me, just come find me at the track at our next club race which sound be near the end of October (I believe)
