was wondering if you can use a 12v gell cell battery in the losi 8t 2.0 starter box if so how is it wired or do they make connectors to make it all work or should you just cut the connectors off and wire drectly to the battery? any help would be cool.

You can do it with some Deans connectors. I'd clip the Y harness for the 2 stick packs with enough slack to solder connectors between the 2 ends. Then get some 12-16g wire and solder a deans plug to one end and whatever connectors your gel cell takes to the other end. That way you have the option of switching between the stick packs and the gel cell whenever you want.

sweet sounds good ill try it out, just hoping all the voltage stuff is right for the motor, but thanks again for the info.

I believe the Losi box is wired in series, this would retain the 7.2 volts but add the capacity of the extra battery. Will the starter motor reliably hold up to the extra 5-7 volts that the gel battery is going to put out?

No problem. The voltage should be fine. I can send you some pics of what I did to mine if you like.

The packs wired in series gives out 14.4v, wired in parallel keeps 7.2v and increases the capacity. The box is more powerful with the stick packs, but the 12v should be alright unless you have a really tight engine.

Here you go, I tried to fit it all in 1 picture. I used a male dean's plug for the box side, and female plugs on the battery sides. My box came with a 12v, but I made a harness for 2 stick packs since it wouldn't turn a new GRP .21 over. After about a gallon though, the 12v does the job. Will it start yours?, probably, though I still heat my engine to about 180F before I start it. The 12v is a Kung Long Battery that came with the box. I'm pretty sure most 12v batteries for starter boxes are the same size. Just don't get a 12v battery for a power wheel.

Edit: I just checked Amain, the 12v batteries they had look like they are all the same size. Here is a link. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/14474/n/Hangar-9-12V-7Ah-Battery-Charger-Combo
