There are problems Losi would have for creating a 1/10 scale latemodel. First, the chassis must meet the DODC (dirtoval.com) rule book. If they want to have a body with it, it must also be a DODC approved body. I would like to see losi release a late model (electric and Nitro), I just don't see it happening right now. Here in PA, 1/10 scale late models are the most popular class here.

That would be sweet! Pretty much like the mini but with xxxcr front shocks all the way around, xxx tranny, optional narrow bumper for edm bodies, and the option of mid or rear motor with no additional parts. Oh and in kit form, maybe rtr version also.

It wouldn't have to be DODC legal, but it would make it a lil more popular. But at the same time prolly more expensive.

I'm in the process of building my own XXX-LM for the local dirt oval... (My Slider is great for the Sprint Car class, but Latemodel looks like fun, so...) Based on a standard XXX buggy, changed to Speed-T shock towers (lets the body sit MUCH lower and you don't cut/chop anything -- just swap parts. I also talked a buddy into changing his XXX based Latemodel over to these shock towers, and he loved them (the Speed-T body mounts can be used to directly mount the LM body without any other modificiations!)... These shock mounts also lower the car a bit since they lay the shocks down more...
I may try one of the Speedy's modified RPM front bumpers to provide support for the body's "nose" (I see many LM's "bouncing" the nose on our slightly rough "buggy tire" dirt oval)..
I'm also looking at another trick for rear body mounts, but the package with the parts I need hasn't arrived, so I'll save that for another post when/if they arrive and work out...
Got a McAllister 'Vegas' LM body, and I've already tested the chassis without a body and it handles very well -- with the downforce from the body, I anticipate a great race car...
Shocks are LOSI CR buggy style shocks -- no limiters in the front, and 1/4" limiters in the rears -- works great -- level chassis with about 18-20mm ride height...
LOSI -- Are you listening? You already have the parts in stock..!
TFrahm keep up the good posts!
I have been thinking of building a 1/10 late model using the XXX!
Guess I should get started!

I ran a xxxcr latemodel with all stock chassis parts with some custom body mounts and it didn't do bad. It was mostly driver and too big of a motor that hurt the car. :D I finally got a hold on my car then the ourdoor season ended. Now I am having troubles on a med-high bite buggy tire track. I actually switched from a latemodel body to a edm body, I got tired of the beating in the latemodel class. The car runs a little better, but like I said I am having problems with getting the car to turn at speed. How did the speed t towers effect the car? Did they make it more stable?

From the testing I have done, the Speed-T shock towers seem to help reduce the chassis roll in the turns because of the way the shocks now lay down more. This does seem to make the car more stable -- lead in the nose seems to help it turn in harder and keep the nose on the ground on corner exit under hard accelleration...
I understand what you mean when you talk about "beating" -- in the Sprint Car class, those open wheels really make clean driving more important, as a casual bump can cause a big flip. With the latemodels and the full fenders, they seem to believe "rubbin's racing"... :(

But some of the latemodel guys around here get pretty attitudinal with bumping. But in the 2wd mini late model class that is a different story. Just tuesday night me and a good friend had the best race I have ever seen or had the pleasure of being in. He would pass me for the lead out of 2 and I would get him outta 4. We were pushing so hard we were both sweating on the stand. It came down to the last stretch with us rubbing doors outta 4 down the straight and .01 second difference at the line! Awesome race!
Anyway, I picked up some new tires for the front of my xxxcr to match the rear tires (losi pink taper pins) and I'm gonna try it saturday. The tapers worked awesome on the rear so I am gonna run them of the front and see what happens. I might have to try the speed-t towers, because I am looking to take out some body roll without going with outrageous oil and spring combos to where the car is bouncy.

Saturday night I got the first track time with the XXXLM (that's what I'm calling it anyway...) :D
Light turnout for club level racing, but I qualified 2nd out of 6 and finished the Main in second place, about 2 seconds back from the leader. Most of these guys have been racing and tuning their latemodels for about a month (new class locally), but I have plenty of experience with my 10th scale slider and mini LM, so I was able to get tuned in pretty quick. (The chassis had only been tested without the body one time before Saturday, so I was starting from scratch.)
The chassis is rather ugly -- I got it used, and it has gone through a lot of action before I got it. The last owner had used it as a sprint car, so the sides of the main tub are cut off (not a problem -- just explaining why it looks like it does). The front and rear shock towers are LOSI Speed-T items, and the body mounts are also Speed-T/DT items -- all standard LOSI parts. The McAllister Vegas LM body is mounted straight onto the Speed-T/DT mounts with no modifications of any kind.
I need to find a way to offset the battery to the left (like the miniLM), but for now I run the battery in the center and a strip of lead down the left side -- ugly, but it works. the shocks are a temporary measure -- they are from a Duratrax Evader BX, but I have a XXX-CR roller on the way so I will have LOSI shocks and potentially VLA suspension on it soon (the current car started life as a XXX Sport from the looks of it, so it is pre-VLA, etc.). Because I also race a Slider, I wanted to be able to use the same front tires, so the front end is a bit of a hybrid (again using Evader BX parts -- DTXC8223 knuckles, DTXC6171 axles) -- the car would work just as well with standard XXX front end...
The car, with only one night on it, HAULS! I turned the fastest "fast lap" in the A-main, so the speed is there, just have to work traffic a bit better...
I have a potential improvement for the rear body mounting, based on DT "cage" parts, but that is for another day...
LOSI -- you could build this car "off the shelf" with current parts...

It looks pretty good. I think I am gonna pick up a set of the speed t towers this week to try them out. I also have my "xxx project" almost all the way mocked up. I am working on a xxx based dirt oval specific car. With mid motor, and the option of an offset battery. The kicker is that it will be able to use all losi parts.
