what is the diff gear for? i know that it helps the car move but really?

the diff gear is a set pinion and axle gears, or carbide balls tightened between plates,
both types help to differentiate, or equalize, the difference of the rotating tires as the car turns a corner.
they also use them in center diffs so the front and rear out puts can turn different speeds when turning.
or more simple than that.
if you take your rc, turn the steering all the way and drive one circle,
your wheels will leave four different size rings, meaning that each tire turns a different speed to travel the same distance.
more diffs means the car can turn sharper with out the wheels binding up and making you spin out or not turn when going fast.

does that help or make it worse?

a guy i know from the lhs, has rooms full of rc, took apart the diff gear of his micro and says he can't put it back together....his fingers are too big...lol.
now that's micro!
