How do you guys set the clutch springs? I am installing an Axial .28 in my LST but I am using all Losi stuff to bolt on to it. Just pulling the pull-start the wheels are moving. The shoes are not tight so they sit against the clutch bell. Also, the collet on the Axial engine is just a little longer than the one that came in one of my parts bags and now the pinion gears are just a touch farther than the spur gears. Is this a problem?
Thanks,
Blake

Sounds like you need new clutch springs , if they are put on correctly . Also , put the stock collet on the engine so everything lines up .

These are brand new springs straight from the bag. Everything going on the engine is brand new. They are somewhat loose, the springs, and the shoes move around maybe an 1/8". Could my problem be elsewhere? Slipper too tight? I haven't adjusted that yet.

Sure you have the springs on right ? You did spring them around the clutch nut , right ?

I have no idea? I have never done this so that was why I was asking. Also, obviously the engine wasn't running but when I shifted from reverse to forward the truck "lurched" forward. I didn't think it would move at all?

The part of the spring that is straight has to be sprung around the clutch nut and set on the groove in the nut . Losi and others make a tool that makes it much easier to do this .

Says LST but works for any clutch with the same type of clutch system .
Here is one of many vids on YouTube . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYpuoXbzG5Y

So the short part of the spring is pulled back on the shaft? Is that what I am seeing?

Yes, to pull the springs tight to keep the clutch shoes pulled inward. Once the motor begins increasing RPM (accelerating) the shoes will come out and begin to grab and start moving the vehicle. You shouldn't have to sand new springs, I never have at least. But it can be done if necessary.

Thanks a lot guys. Ordering the tool right now and hopefully Labor Day Weekend I can "allow" my new neighbors the enjoyment of a louder nitro engine than my Nitro Rustler. I really want to see how this Axial engine runs.

You don`t sand springs , you sand the shoes .

I got it all together last night and did two tanks of break in. I'm going to cut out and mount the body today or tomorrow and hopefully get a picture on her. Thanks again.
