Hey Losi, I know a lot of people that are hoping for a Micro Rock Crawler. You should seriously consider this!

Lets voice this loud and clear everybody, if we make enough noise, Losi might hear us!

Imagine making a rock course in a box for long road trips.......

i would buy a 1/36 4wd of any kind and all of the ones they come out with,
rock crawler
monster truck with twin little tiny motors, no center diff please,
4wd truggy or sc truck would be killer fun because the brushless motor makes the rear drive a real hand full and almost pointless.

another group of trucks i would buy is 1/10 4wd.
like e-savage or e-revo with twin motors and batteries
4wd desert truck, sc truck
1/10 lst2 would be awsome.

and even something like the kyosho blizzard, it's the best one i can find to play in the snow, sure a truck can go... but a blizzard can climb and walk accross the top of any depth of powered snow.
bbbrrrrrr, i think i know why rc outside in the winter in Canada is not such a hot idea
you guys in the southern stats got it good

I would love a micro crawler. I will be getting the 1/18 mini crawler soon to have for winter. Micro crawlers are alot of fun. Ive built quite a few out of xmod trucks. It is also very easy to take a peice of card board and set up a nice course out of anything.

I think the coolest thing about being a Losi Crawler is if you have both the MRC and the LCC, you represent the best of two worlds. One is scale. You own both a mini and a 2.2. The other world is drivetrain. You own both a conventional crawler and a worm drive crawler. A micro would be the icing on the cake!:D

If you guys have been to the Worlds Report thread, it looks like we'll eventually will have the opportunity to buy a "Mini Comp Crawler".

i think microtman has big fun with his micro's!

who said it needs to be big to be fun.

building a rock crawling course is tons of work...really i mean you need tonnes of rocks to make one.

a 1/36 couse could be made out of stuff that is just laying around

I've had this for a few days now, what a blast to drive. There isn't a calculator, cellphone, or keyboard safe with this around. I added some weight to the wheels to keep the tires planted and cut 4 coils off of the shock springs to bring the ride height down. Well off to conquer some more desk top items.

What are the chances of making all colors available for RTR and BND instead of 2 colors for each.?

Like with the Strike we will only be getting the RTR here in Australia so there will only be two color choices.

Hi all,

Just got my micro rock crawler. Grey BND version. This is the first Losi product and micro RC I have ever purchased.

I have been very impressed with friends Losi products and thought I would give this a shot for some indoor fun this winter.

I have ran one pack through so far and it was a blast.

I am interested in other micro battery options and set-ups for better run time.

Anyway...see you around as I am not shy about disassembling or modifying things that aren't broken...maybe we get a 1/24 Micro crawler forum now?

I would also like to thank my local hobby shop...Colerain Hobbies in Cincinnati getting me this rig.

Later,

got mine on wednesday of last week and starting having the same problems as above mentioned. steering locking with no response also have had the throttle stop working with steering still working. have had to rebind transmitter to car several times ANY IDEA'S?
I have tried new batteries in all (except car) with same problems occuring, have even purchased a wall charger to insure getting full charge, still same.
It is fun to drive when working properly.:D thinking of getting the 1/18 crawler when I can, this is my first car in 7 or 8 years.
also, how long should a stock battery last in one of these cars and how much more run time can I expect out of a lipo battery?

THANKS FOR ANY INFO....

So Ive had my RTR micro crawler for about a week now and I drive it almost everyday. but about every other day or so the rx and tx become unbinded and it takes several attemps to get it binded. today I found it unbinded again and after sever unsuccesful binding attempts with the tx it came with I tried it with my 2.4ghz tx from my 1/10 DT and it worked first try do you think this is a problem with the esc/rx or tx? is anybody else having this issue?

Great! Mine is coming next week, and I'm going to have problems with it. That's what happens when one buys first generation! We'd be better off waiting a year or two for Losi to improve it. Yeah...right.

RC car enthusiasts are notorious for being impatient. I personally want Losi to produce a scaler...now!!!:D

I'll work out the bugs, like I've been doing with my Comp Crawler and Mini Rock Crawler. It's a funny thing, but I've taken apart and put back together both crawlers several times. My first intentions were to buy pre-assembled models so I wouldn't have to go through the assembly process, because I didn't want to do that anymore. Thank goodness I've had assembly experience from the past. I still would rather not assemble. Modify...yes, assemble...no. And the Micro Rock Crawler will be going through the assembly and modifying process with a microscope! I'm over fifty years old! :o

I got mine Wednesday (9th), and I hear it, too. I suspect somewhere in the steering assembly, it's tight. I just don't know where. I haven't experienced the steering to the right problem yet.

I just received my micro crawler today....so cute:D My crawler when going forward or backwards kind of just studders along going forward or backwards in a straight line. I have to give it a push or go full throttle to get it to move again:eek: Some time it works and then it just stops again. So, I disconnected the front drive line and then the back drive line to see if it still happens...and it did. Next I disconnected both drive lines to see if it was the transmission...and it was. Just as before, it was stuttering and just stopping and not starting again without assistance:confused: I then checked the motor to transmission mesh and it was ok, but when I turned the transmission output shaft.....MAJOR HANG UPS OR BINDING, AS IT WERE:eek:

Is there a RECALL FOR THIS? Or did I just get a LEMON? :( How can I get this taken care of in a timely manner. My grandsons birthday present sets in pieces on my work bench because it didn't work right.

I don't even know about the steering problem yet..I never got that far!

many of them came with that binding issue, you can call horizon and the will send you replacement gears which may or may not be better.

you can also make sand\grind some material out of the tranny case to give the bearing that hold the output shaft a little wiggle room. Certainly not optimal, but it works.

Today I called the help line....As a new owner I was offered to send my new crawler in for repair at their expense, or they would send me the parts if I felt comfortable taking apart the transfer case and replacing the gears. I elected to choose the parts route for now and could send it in if I still had problems and they would resolve it with no questions asked:D It doesn't get any better than that as far as service goes.....The parts will be here Monday:cool:
Thanks for the great response to my dilemma.

Here is some more pics of the set-up. I kept every thing small and compact. Now I just need to clip the wires cut off the connectors and solder them directly to the board of the receiver. Since I run 5 channels I us my 9z wc2 to run the buggy. I now have alot of mixes set up also.

I also got a bad set of gears with mine. I called Horizon and I had my gears in like 4 days and the new set had fixed the problem. I had two gears warped. The large transfer case gear and the slipper gear. Horizon has great customer service.

Here you can see I'm running a 6 channel receiver running a 4 gram servo for rear dig, two digital 8 gram heli servos for the four wheel steer, a 2000 kv outrunner for low end torque with slow crawling speeds and faster than stock high speeds and while being very efficient and extending run times. To run the motor I am running a 6 gram brushless car speed control I integrated with the receiver.
To keep all the power to the rocks I modded a DP frame. This removed alot of weight above center of gravity and gave it more flex. I installed all new ball studs to increase overall flex.
Now to help keep the weight low, I am running 30 grams of lead in the fronts per tire and 20 grams of lead per rear tire. To keep from high centering I am running bent lower four links, removed the lower axil bolt and boss, added carbon fiber high steer steering, then removed the shoulder bolts and installed king pins in the steering knuckles.
Once I get my new servos ,(I am going to trying some high torque sub micro 4.3 gram servos for steering once they come in), I will clip all wires and solder them directly to the board. I'm allways trying new options and motors to try to get the best set-up. So for this is the best I have found but allways room for improvements.

Sounds like your polarity is crossed. Either you are plugging the battery in backwards depending on the type of plug you are using or the pos and neg wires to the receiver are crossing. Losi used a cheap grade of brittle copper wire in their cables. The wires break from the wires flexing. So check your plug for polarity and if thats ok check the wires where they solder to the board for breakage. Hope this helps.

Hai everybody,

I'm brand new to this forum so I'll introduce myself first.
I'm René - or RP in short - and live in The Netherlands.

I ordered my first MRC.
Now I've read lots of posts on the MRC and I'm interested in extending the runtime.
I'm totally not familiar with LiPo's and would like to use a NiMH with larger capacity.
What is the maximum dimension of the batterypack I can use?

First of all. welcome to the forum RP. I don't think you can go much bigger than the battery that comes in the MRC. Lipo's definately the way to go. Smaller dimensions and twice the run time. If you go back to the thread: MRC gears and diffs- you'll see photos of Jay Robinette's MRC Pro. Xcelorin Brushless system and appears to have the Lipo sitting beside the servo. Pretty cool set-up

Thanks T-Man. My compliments to the "Jay mobile", looks real fine.

Maybe a stupid question but if I use LiPo, does the stock motor stay put of do I also have to invest in a (expensive?) brushless one?

It's just for bashing around indoors, I have no competitive plans (yet...). Just want wheelweights, beadlocks (if possible), another body and perhaps head & tail lights.

No problem running stock motor with Lipo, but from what I've picked up from other threads is that you need what's called LVC (low voltage cut-off) unit for the Electronic Speed Controller. This will cut power to the ESC when the Lipo gets below a certain voltage preventing permanent damage. I'm just going by memory, have no experience with this, so anybody chime in if I'm wrong

Well, after some searches, I've seen some wonderful battery-packs for ever-lasting runtimes (900 mAh), and this extra weight I can use perfectly on the servo. Let's see how that works for the time being.
Thanks for the help. I'll be back again for sure...

Back again!
Well, I'm disappointed with the runtime, it barely hits 8 minutes. And with charging the battery again takes ages. That's NOT the way to do it.
While changing to LiPo's and brushless cost a fortune here, I'll try another thing first: use mini-penlites instead. I've some strong 1000 mAmps here in stock and with a velcro-fixed holder, it's very easy and quick to remove, take out the cells and charge them in half a hour or so. Probably someone else have been there before;
1. ofcourse remove the stock battery and it's cover
2. move the ESC on top of the servo
3. AAA-holder on the empty plate

An hour of run-time for a few bucks. It's worth a try.

Update from Holland;

Despite that the four AAA's function just fine, it makes the rig very topheavy.
Also the batteries only produce enough energy when they are handwarm.

This evening I then tried another possibility: use a 9v battery block.
Well, to be precise, it's a NiMH block which delivers 8,4v and 250mah capacity.
Must make the rig less topheavy as the weight is much less than the four AAA's.
Tried and ran the rig for a testdrive...

Being careful on the throttle, it goes like crazy when it needs to be and creates lots of torque at low revs. Even a 50% incline doesn't flip anymore. And being on it's side, just a quick full throttle gets the rig on it's four feet again. Wow! That's the way to do it.

I don't know if the 8,4v can damage the ESC or motor within some time? Anyone knows this?

Otherwise, this single cell block battery is a cheap and easy fix for longer runs and plenty of power.

If there are no heat issues with the ESC or motor, it should be fine.

I ran a 1300mAh 2s LiPo on mine for a while. I strapped it to the rear axle for added weight. Not sure what the total run time was but I could bash for an hour and not kill the battery. The battery was pretty big for such a little truck, but it worked good. I would guess the run time to be over 1.5 hours based on how much charge it took.

I now run a hand wound competition motor on Thunder Power 45C 325mAh 2s LiPo's with about 10-15 minutes of run time. The wheel speed with this motor is about 5 times faster and it has a LOT more torque than the stock motor but it is only used on comp courses these days. It is also running the MRC Pro chassis.

Just noticed that this was a "Micro" thread.....is that what you are running RP70?

I just read the last page where you posted that you had ordered a MRC and I just assumed it was the 1/18th scale Mini Rock Crawler which is what I am running.

I'm running the micro. I was already wondering how in earth's name you could mount such a big battery... Now I know... ;-)

hey guyz,

i just got a losi 1/24 trail trekker..ive runned it a few times and intend to extend it run times. Ive heard that LiPo batteries can do this easily:

1) Any idea of which LiPo do i get?:
2) Estimate cost of it (in £)
3) Any precautions that i have to take while charging/using the LiPo?

Thanks :)

Hey Stupergenius, how did you get 4 wheel steering? Im relatively new to the rock crawling scene so you would have to explain it lol, sorry

Fit another set of steering hubs on the rear and another servo. If you have a 3ch Spektrum that's it, if you have only 2ch get a servo splitter and try that if it works, fine but if it crabs you need to open the servo and swap the two wires going to the servo motor and the 2 outside wires going to the pot. You should now have 4 wheel steering.

Yesterday afternoon i just received my 1/24 Micro Rock Crawler :)
I was very happy with the model, but very disappointed with the springs damper Shock...
They are very hard for a crawler and they keep the center of the gravity very high !!!

The torque of the standard motor its ok but i had one bright new Xcelorin 8750Kv and one M11 Sanwa that i had to put on
So... the modification its start :) First i had to remove a little bit metal from the base of the motor and a little bit plastic from the center transmission case ( i have to admit that the quality of the plastics is very good and everything is fix perfect ).

The Xcelorin has more power :) and its a little bit faster ( i dont know yet if exist smaller pinion ).

The receiver of M11 it is very heavy and very big for the model... so i take the case out and it is eliminate also this problem :)
The speed control its fix in the position of the battery ( to keep low the center of the Gravity )
and the Standard battery up to the servo ( i want to try the LiPo but i am afraid that will give to much speed to the model )

And now lets come to the main Problem... the springs !
I find and i replace the springs from Kyosho MR02 ( option parts anti roll bar set ) for back and now i am looking solution for front, cause i am stay out of springs

Soon back with the results and FOTOS :)

After all this modifications ... this that is worth it the most, is the springs !!!
Finally its moving like a normal crawler :)
Next modification will be the four will steering :)

Yes, losi recommends xcelorin brand batteries, but I found venom brand batteries for much less money. The 7.4 volt 2-cell 180 mah xcelorin lipo costs about $30 u.s., but the 250 mah venom lipo is only $12 u.s. and since it's got more mah it lasts a lot longer.

As for precautions, just use the lipo chargers with the auto shut-off and you should never have a problem.

Oh, and lose the pound and get some green backs:D
