hi there,
i have TA05 which has a losi xcelorin 13.t brushless motor and matching esc.
im new to brushless motors so please excuse my ignoranace, in my old tamiya tt01 i had a tamiya sport tuned motor standard 540 size which is pretty much connect the cables and away i went.
now onto my xcerlorin, i go the car secondhand and the guy i had it from had it set up to race, whereas i will be using it to drift. the problem i have is it has no reverse at the moment and i dont know how to configure it so i have. i dont have the usb adaptor that i've read about or the pc software. i also didnt get a esc programming card.
is it possible to switch the reverse function on without any of the above mentioned?
many thanks xcerlorin noob

Unfortunately all the factory profiles are forward only. Unless one of the two user adjustable settings has reverse turned on you will need the USB adapter and a computer to turn on reverse. Depending on the firmware version of the ESC you may be able to use the QC card but the later firmware versions of the ESC made it so you needed a computer to get to the advance features.

Hey Casper what is a good setup for 13.5 sytem in a 2wd buggy on high traction med size track. Most of the guys I'm running against are using TEKIN, LRP and KO's with boost settings. I figured if the the Losi team can run against them on the pro level then I should be able in a club race. I just see that some of these guys have some pretty fast 13.5s

The Xcelorin stuff has outstanding bottom end so you have an advantage on the infield but the Tekin's and new LRP will get you down the straight. The bigger and more open the layout the bigger there advantage. The tighter and more technical the track the more the Xcelorin shines.

Hi Casper,
Does the advantage reside in the motor or the ESC please? I want to continue running Xcelorin at club level but need something for the regional events with long straights where I keep getting blown away.
Thanks for your time!

It is all in the ESC. The only advantage I see in the motors from other companies is timing adjustment on the motor. Not really needed if you can do it all in the ESC though. ROAR has recently announced that they will come out with rules that require fixed timing ESC settings to be run at ROAR events next year. I Think this is a great move as these latest generation ESC's really have ruined the stock classes by making them WAY too fast and the reliability has gone WAY down which drives cost up. None of those are good for the hobby. I am all for innovation and advancement but here IMO is an example that there is too much of a good thing!

Agreed, but sadly this is the way that RC seems to be heading in general and it's not doing anything to get the hobby-level enthusiast involved. I don't think that there is any such legislation about to be introduced in the UK where we are governed by the BRCA. Personally I think once you get used the the speed of a new ESC or motor it then feels normal and no faster than the previous generation. My brushless now tha I'm used to it doesnt feel any faster than my 27T stock (although of course it is), the greater speed just makes for more inconsistent racing, less reliability and more expense resulting in lack of interest from potential newcomers to the hobby.
Mind if I be a bit nosy and ask you're real Team Driver identity please, Casper?:D

Yes I am a real team driver. (you need admin to put the team driver designation under you name! ;)) My name is Doug Nielsen but everyone knows me as Casper.
For seasoned drivers they can get used to the speed. For people coming onto the hobby speeds are very fast if you buy all the right equipment and can be very hard to learn to drive. If you get entry stuff or non advance timing you will get smoked and discouraged. I think it is a good move on the sanctioning body of ROAR to impliment this type of rule.

Yes, agreed, I'm all in favour of any rules that slow the cars down, just have to try and keep up until this happens which is why I hope Losi add advanced timing to the next firmware update if you catch my drift.
Nice to meet you Doug, I wasnt doubting your identity as a team driver at all, just wondered which of the team drivers you actually where.:D
