When are you coming out? I have to work Sat-Sun, but was going to run on Friday. So far it looks like the weather should hold out and we were gong to run some nitro during the day, but I might head down to West Coast and run that night if we get done during the day.

Hey Chuck,
I actually haven't run nitro since NC..lol I know Kevin and Dyno have been running alot though. Talking with them they change the gear, and I know they said it made a big difference with the power band. Hit up Dyno and get the skinny.

Hey Frank, What tires were you running at the 8th scale champ. at OCRC
Frank Root

Hey Chad,
I ran Pink Taper Pins with AKA foam. They seemed to be the fast tires. Ryan and Matt both ran Pink King Pins, and were really happy with the overall consistency. I might go that route for a little better tires wear, and it'll make the car a little easier to drive.

Hey Chuck,
I am not going to be going to the Nitro Nats this year, Electric instead. I did run at the Nitro JBRL over the weekend, but got a drop-in engine and it ran well without me having to change anything.

Hi Frank, I just recently put together a xxx-sct with a tlr kit and was racing with Derek Lamb at Pegasus last friday night. He suggested to me that I contact you on set up tips? Im trying to get the truck dialed in for the short course race this saturday at Pegasus. Im running a Tekin rs and redline 17.5. 84t spur and 24t pinion. Any help with set up, tires, and weights in the truck will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I will be glad to help. If you can send me your email, I send you the setup I will start with. I am not an expert about 17.5T gearing since I have run mod for a while, but I am sure there will be others present that will be able to help. I will be race this weekend at Pegasus, so please feel free to come over, introduce yourself, and ask any questions you may have.
Thank you,

I am installing the ball differential in the xxx sct. There is one cupped washer that is not listed in the instructions in the kit. The cupped wahser is also not listed in the xxx cr instructions for building a ball diff. I noticed this washer also comes with the replacement monster diff? Can't figure out where it goes?

You will not need to use it when using the spring.

Hey Frank, I had a question about the setup that you sent me and if you could help that would be awesome. On the rear hub carrier you have the box marked for short on the arm and with the tlr hub carriers you cannot change the length like you can with the stock ones, you can only change the position of the hinge pin. Are you running the stock carriers short or the tlr ones with the hinge pins inside? Can you clear this up for me? Ive got the rest of the setup complete besides this and cant wait to run this weekend at westcoast in mod sc and thanks in advance. Chase

I run the TLR hubs, with the pin hole through the inside fo the arm and the inside of the hub.

Hi,
Yes, the setup on tlracing.com is pretty much exactly what I have been running at WC. 22/76 is close for gearing, it might go up or down 1 tooth dependent on which motor you are running.
Thanks,
Frank

By type of motor, I didn't mean the wind, but the make. I.e. Orion, LRP, Tekin..etc.
I run Gold Bar Codes front and rear with JC closed cell rear and Losi stock front foam.

Any chance you can post a picture or 2 of the bottom of the 22T with the lexan pieces that the team drivers are adding to secure the body flaps with velcro. I cannot envision how to attach the lexan to the plastic chassis pieces. Thanks, Brian

Thanks Frank, I'm asking how to attatch the lexan to the car. I'm guessing that they are using the screws that hold the side pods of the chassis to screw the lexan on but it seems like the lexan could get torn off pretty easily. Would you mind posting a picture from the bottom side of the chassis, please.

Unfortunately, I do not have direct access to either Dustin or Mike's trucks. They do use .030" lexan and screws/nuts to attach them to the side guards, and to my knowledge, have not had to replace them to this point (since Nationals).

Hi frank I have recently started racing again after a 10 year gap and have just brought a losi 22 , now even though I've got a set up for the car I am finding it difficult to find info on the car itself so I can try my own set ups I.e what certain parts do like castor / link mounts / kick up/ shock positions/ ect ect , what I want to know is by changing a piticular item say from 10deg castor to 5 deg what effect does it have and that's for every changeable part on the car so racers can make there own setups to suit there driving styles. You may already have these online but I am buggered if I can find them if you already have this info , so pease can anyone give me a link or a list of changes so I can set me own car up and I have found some stuff I.e bladders vs emulsion shocks but not all like link positions ect , rc companies used to put these in the back of the instruction manuals at one time With kind regards Ian
Ps I've posted it's on the ask the drivers board but wanted to ask a team losi driver directly to , A/ get your opinion & B/ see what TLR racing has a whole thought, my views are simple if the info is there and easily accessible for beginners or average club racers with little knowledge of setting up cars then the more people you can attract to racing and hopefully with a losi car.

Hi Frank, Just wanted you to know I'm a big fan and love the fact that you are willing to share your knowledge with the not so good drivers. I admire you for that for sure, because honestly, there aren't that many of ya left!! Anywho, I've come to ask you about gearing for the 22. I have a 76 spur, Viper 13.5 motor and Viper Esc. 2.2 wheels and mid-motor set-up. The track is really tight with load's of grip (carpet) and a lot of 90 degree turns in it. I haven't tried any sized pinion but I was going to go with a 28. What do you think? Any help would be greatly appreciated. rob

Thanks for asking. We do not have an all-encompassing setup “book” available right now. Most setup changes are consistent between cars, but the result can even vary depending on grip levels, driving style and other setup parameters. If you have specific questions, please feel free to ask.
We do take time to post on a particular topic on the TLR Blog from time to time, so check it out the link below, there are already some great articles in the blog!

I did some of the testing for the 22 RTR ESC and Motor. It is a non-timing setup, and the motor is a Losi motor, but I landed on 28 or 29 pinion with a 76 spur as the ideal gearing. As long as you are running your Viper ESC without timing, 28T should be a good place to start.
