View Full Version : Tele speed calibration

I tried to calculate the Tele-speed and as mentioned in the manual, I marked the clutch bell & turn the car 10 laps. After that, I got a distance of 12" ( roll out value=1.2) & I think that this is not the right value because the initial value was 4.2. What was wrong with my calibration process ?

Can anyone help please with this issue ?

I will look at the manual right now I see if I can come up with anything you may have missed.

I think I found your prob. In manual it says mark the clutchbell that the sensor is reading from and you,I assume marked the clutch bell. The sensor isn't on the clutch bell though. Take a look at the rear drive line where it hooks to the rear diff. That's where the sensor is on mine. Mine rolled ahead 2ft 10 1/2 inches in 10 turns.

I guess I should say I assume that is the speed sensor since I didn't mount it myself.

I've heard the opinion that the speed/rpm reading will never be correct at high speed due to "blurring". It was explained that the circumfrence of the part where the sensor tape is mounted is to small and goes around so fast that the sensor just reads a blur. While I don't know if it's true it certainly seems reasonable.

thanks for the answer.
can you please check what is default the roll out value that came with the car in your transmier?
As far as I remember its around 4.5" & its not the same as your measure

Mine came set at 4.2" I've seen speeds of 89mph so I know mine isn't calibrated correctly. Where is the sensor on yours? Rear drive shaft like mine?

Yap, Same as yours

Where you able to get it calibrated correctly? Keep me posted on the outcome. I really hadn't given mine much thought because everytime I glance down at my transmitter I nearly run into something at high speed.

Guys, I have a Aftershock LE that I want to add the rpm sensor to. Could you post a pic of where the sensor is mounted on your XXLs? I really wanna install mine but it doesn't seem that the engine is the right place.

i havent gotten my 10-t calibrated either. the blur thing sounds about right because its off the most when you go fast. my sticker came off when a rock got jammed in there and i havent been able to get it right since, not that it was right in the first place, but it was close....top speed about 55mph...probably about 10mph off...now its all over the place!! sometimes it says up to 85mph!!
we dont need mph anyway. :o

i think on the 8ight buggy rtr it is mounted on the center diff i remember maybe they mounted it on the ten-t in the wrong spot

Timmy,
Same here.......LOL
I have foud that the sensor mount for the drive shaft breaks very easily.
Check That Ya'll and repostion it, it will work again.
My Temp feedback is very close to what my temp gun says

So got my Ten-T this weekend. Noticed a lot of you having problem with the speed sticker falling off. I was happy to see that Losi had put a extra "band" around the sticker thinking they had realized the problem. Well the band and the sticker fell off on the first run anyway, so much for that fix :(
Have any of you found a good way to make it stick?

I cleaned the shaft really good, then applied CA then the sticker use accelerator, been on for a week. I have been told you can use a silver sharpie Or silver paint. I will try that when this one falls off

Thank you! I was thinking something like this and will try it out :)

You can also set the speed calibration by using another method in the Spektrum manual. Too long to type, but it's in there. I just did it yesterday, ran it today, and it seems to be about right.

geofiveo,
Might not matter to you anymore but the sensor is mounted using the 2 allen screws that hold the radio box in place it see the axle through a hole in chassis and you stick the sensors sticker on the axle wrap.
I have problems with my telementry reading for any amount of time my ten-t worked from box but only for a few tanks I built my xxl and it worked for about the same number of tanks.
DO you guys know what goes wrong is the sensor reader dirty or does the sticker come out of alignment some how I cant figure out how to clean it as I never see dirt on it so I usually blow air on it and try to make sure the sticker is good but I dont mess with it much since it only seems to work fora few tanks and isn't worth the maintenance.
ANY TIPS?

The way the sensor works is via an LED light that reflects off the chrome sticker and is picked up by an inferred sensor located in the same unit.
In order for it to work properly the sensor must be kept clear of dirt and the sticker must be in place, as well as the sensor being orientated toward the sticker.
You can use either a silver sharpie or even better would be a dot of Chrome paint followed by some clear lacquer to keep the dot from getting scratched up.
It's important that you make the painted dot the same size as the chrome sticker because the system has been calibrated to that size and it does make a difference.
In order to get a true reading for speed it must be located at the shaft going to the Diff.
If it's located at the engine drive shaft then it'll only give Engine RPM, not true speed.
You have to decide what you want to monitor.
My Ten-T came with the sensor located @ the rear Diff shaft and it has the clear band around it. So far I'm getting very accurate speeds but forget trying to get true RPM readings because it's in the wrong location.
To get true RPM the sensor has to be located at the main drive shaft off the engine, you can't have it both ways, sorry.
What the RPM reading is getting from being on the Diff is the RPM of the shaft going into the Diff, not the Engine drive shaft.
Anyway, the only thing I use telemetry for is Temp monitoring and Batt level so as far as the speed thing, it's cool, but not a big deal to me.
When I lose my chrome dot, I'll try to get it pained on, but the Truggy is too much fun to worry about something like that, I just enjoy goofing and racing, not how fast I'm going, it's fast and that's all I need to know, LOL!

Same here. I am finding that it's too much work to keep that sensor clean and in good shape. After one good run in the dirt, the sensor dot is pretty much wrecked and doesn't read accurately. I am in the same boat as you, I know that it goes redunkulous fast, and that's all that matters to me. If you really are hung up on speed, you'd be far more accurate using a speed gun anyways.
