Is the Mini-T Pro worth it for a basher, or should I just get a Mini-T RTR and upgrade over time.
Can you suggest a budget conscious setup for the Pro? (electronics, batteries, etc.)
Thanks

Get the Mini-T Pro and just add the electronics you like if you plan using a brushless set up.
Mini Baja is a perfect RTR if you don't care messing around the truck and start to play as you open the box.
My 2Cents
Perfect set up:
Mini-T Pro
MiniSidewinder5400kv or SpeedPassionEmotion 5200kv
2S lipo
Any 2ch DSM radio (Acoms Techniplus 2,4)
a bunch of tires (front narrow too !)

Save yourself the headacks and buy the pro! the mini-t started this small scale revolution, THANK YOU LOSI FOR THAT! Now having said that When I got the first mini-t sold locally it was fun. then my buddies and I started to modify the critters to make them more like our 10th scalers. first to go was the electronics, not that the speedo was horrible, but we needed better servos. and to replace or upgrade the servo the speedo rec, combo had to go. (the stock servo is four wire, the upgrades are all three). So with that we bought recivers and speedos and servos anyways. The rest of the upgrades I felt where needed, oil filled shocks, ball bearings, and the ball diff, and a slipper made it a pro. Dont get me wrong the mini-t is a gas to drive. but the rtr is just an entry lever one step up from a toy grade truck. you will intime do the upgrades anyways so might as well do it up front and save yourself some flustration and cash. As for sugestions for electronics, you need to first decide you purpose for the truck and we'll go from there.

Well, I knew you would try and sway me from the mini-t rtr, but impulse had gotten the best of me before your replies.
I went down to the LHS and picked up a mini-t and a 1100 battery.
This was suppose to be a good learning experience for my son, who regularly drives my Nitro car under heavy supervision. Instead it has become a lesson in frustration.
The truck was bad right out of the box. I suspect a bad receiver.
Terrible glitching and about 5' of range.
I've checked every wire, plug, connection etc.
After wasting hours of time, I guess my only option at this time is to upgrade pretty much everything. So much for taking the easy way.

bue for you ditch everything, open the reciver box cut off about 1/2 inch of the wire and resolder it to the board. Mine was the same way! On mine the antenea got pinched when they assebled the rec. box.
Im not sure, but do they still sell the Mini-T Pro?

Mini T Pro was discontinued a while back.
I think they should bring it out again but with the desert truck chassis and a longer body.

Just an update - I ditched all the electronics from the mini-t.
Added the following:
Castle Sidewinder Micro
Castle 6800kv motor
Hitec HS-55 servo
Hitec Aggressor TX / RX
15t metal pinion
Deans Ultra plugs
All I can say is "Wow". What an improvement.
I guess wheelie bar will be the next item :)
Still running the 7.2v 1100 Nimh batteries, can't wait to try some LiPos
