View Full Version : Which Model... 8ight T 2.0 or 8ight 2.0?

I've always ran 1/10th models (most recently a Nitro Revo) but I wanted to try my hand at a 1/8th buggy or truggy. I would use the model primarily for backyard bashing and non-competitive track days. Being an engineer the more adjustments the better (although I'm sure they are roughly the same for either model). Can someone help steer me either way. Also, pluses and minuses to Nitro vs. Electric...I have had both at one time and I know there is a huge preference either way but just some thoughts from actual owners would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Truggy would be better for bashing due to higher ground clearance. When you say electric vs nitro as you talking about in 1/8 scale or just in general. One thing I perfered with a brushless truggy over a brushless truggy was you weren't as limited on what size batteries you could run due to the buggy having a lower body

Alan, Thanks for the input - I have only used brushless in my rock crawlers and the batteries last for quite some time. I don't expect to get anything spectacular out of these higher performing vehicles, but what kind of run times have you seen? How many batteries do you really need for a day of bashing/racing? The thing I love about nitro is that you can just keep adding fuel but I really love the fact that my wife would prefer the brushless due to less noise (personally I don't mind the noise).

After reading your post I'm leaning toward the truggy...trying to be realistic about it's use - but just in case I have the extra time. I assume either platform can be raced if enough time is put into the setup, etc.

How durable are the models for bashing?

Both the truggy and buggy perform excellent and are very durable. Mine got abused a fair bit and the only thing I managed to break was a shock shaft (well bend). Most people see between 20 - 30 minutes when running brushless but that is usually racing. I was running 2050KV Neu 1512 on 5S and would reach 30 minutes under race condition and double for bashing around.

I would say go with the truggy for backyard bashing and stick with Nitro. I'm not bashing electric at all they are super fast and you get more run time out of a lipo brushless setup than you do one tank of nitro, but nitro seem to be extremely close in speed if tuned right, and if you want to keep running past a tank while bashing you just pull up close fill up and keep going. With an electric you have to stop pull the body off swap out the battery (if you have a spare charged up) and then put the body back on. Also the rtr nitro lists for $799 and with a small starter kit and some fuel you're good to go. To convert your looking around $1300 total bill. I believe the losi makes an E8ight now, but it's $899 and if you have to buy lipos for it you're looking around $150-$200 a piece. And the truggy would be so much better than a buggy for bashing because of the larger wheels and ground clearance. If my buggy is tuned to race and I put it in the yard it easily runs about 40 degrees warmer because of the motor haven't to work so hard to move in the grass. I haven't ran my truggy in the grass yet, but I can only imagine it would do much better than the buggy.

Hope this helps.
