Welcome to the forum. The stock esc/motor can handle 6 cell nimh battery. With stock setup maybe 30mph. ESC doesn't have lipo cutoff so best not to use lipo. You could always upgrade the motor/esc later on to brushless and run lipo. Have you checked out the upcoming Losi Strike (Short Course Truck) The ESC on the Strike has lipo cutoff if you were wanting to run lipo

Well i saw the strike awhile ago when it came out but i will have two slashes (vxl 2s, and a spec racer) by the start of the new year so i want to get something different, and the dt apeales to me because it is still scale looking but is "different".

I own 2 DT's and have had only to do ESC and Motor upgrades (9.5T Speed passion combo , Drift Master 2 Rocks) apart from the that you can really hammer the DT
Battery 7.4 lipo 35c 5000mha Vemom
hint 1 dont adjust slipper clutch to tight
hint 2 buy spare set of steering rods
hint 3 loctie all nuts /bolts

I have a DT (basically stock with the exception of a Novak Tempest ESC and Speed Gems 17T motor) and this truck is very durable. I have ran it into a few curbs and mailboxes (while drivnig at night of course) and nothing has broke yet. With that motor/esc combo it will wheelie pretty easily with cheap NiMh, I cant wait to see what it will do with LiPo.

Love my dt my best advice do not hit a 2000 pound tool box running 50+ mph you will be buying LOTS of parts (boy did i learn alot that night) but other then that this truck is as durable as they come!!
