I have had the exact same problem with lipo and NiMh. I called losi and was told to send it to horizon services and that the problem was either with the motor or esc. havent goten around to it yet. sorry that prob wasnt any help...

mine also had that same problem as I drove it more it seemed to get better but never stopped doing it completley until I checked all the wires going into esc and one you could tell was just barely making a connection and I cut the shrink wrap a little bit and soldered the connection back and it cleared up.
I also had a buddy who had his wires come loose inside his motor can. He would push the wires in a little bit on the motor and it would stop jerking and drive fine for a while but start to come loose again so he had to finally buy a new motor since you can't take it apart.

Mine originally worked fine, then the very same problem came up. I called Horizon Hobbies and they sent me a new motor / esc combo under warranty. It works fine now.

The tech support guy said that the brushless systems are pretty tempermental.

Well I figured I mind as well add my two cents to this thread. Just got off the phone with horizon hobby and they're sending me a replacement xceleron 8750kv motor. The leads going into the motor i've discovered come loose over time, causing issues with running, inconsistency in performance. What lead me to further investigate this and discover the problem was when I changed out my rx for an upgraded spektrum dsm unit and put it all back together the motor was stuttering, so I charged the lipo and back I tested to discover no change. Verified the esc wires were all in good shape as well. Then I played with the motor leads while pulling the trigger on the remote to get it working again and discover the bad wires. The leads in these motors are very delicate... but horizon hobby does back up their products very well! Hope this helps someone out who may be struggling to find a diagnosis.

I installed mine and same deal with the stuttering. Upon initial install it would stutter with wheels in the air. I found that 2 of motor side wires had broken away from the barrel connectors. So I resoldered/insulated and then the tires actually spun while in the air, but then I put the thing on the ground it stuttered again. Lift it up and it rips. So basically when there is no load it turns fine.

I was given this stuff by a friend, though still NIP. I don't want to bother him if its really a manufacturer defect. So I can just contact Horizon and they may possibly warranty it?

Yup, they may need you to send them the bad motor in order to get a replacement though.

So, I recently purchased a Micro High Roller. The truck is very fun. I have had it about two weeks and just purchased the Brushless XCelorin system with receiver and servo. I got it in the mail today and immediately installed it. I had it nice and neat, set it up, programmed it with the card and noticed a st...st...st...stutter during acceleration. When the truck would accelerate it would be on or off. Sometimes if I got the timing right with the throttle and the stutter I could hold full throttle with the truck going...no where. I checked all the wires, even tried messing with the wires while hitting the throttle to see if I could pin point it but nothing changed. This is frustrating. I like the truck and the quality there in but this brushless system seems to suck. Not four hours after opening the box and installing it I have already put in a warranty replacement form with Horizon.

Another thing...the form Horizon has you print out to send with the item if necessary indicated I have to send them money for return shipping of the new product. I hope this isn't true. It is THEIR defective product and not only do I have to pay for shipping to get THEIR broken product to them but I have to pay to have them ship back a replacement. Bogus!!!

It sucks that there doesn't seem to be any solution other than taking it out and re-wiring the entire system yourself or having to wait for a replacement. I buy stuff with all the connectors installed for a reason...I suck with a soldering gun.

Anyway, I will see what if anything the replacement will bring.

Also, sometimes when I turn the ESC on it takes quite a while to turn on. It is so long that sometimes I begin to question whether I have the battery hooked up, then the blue light will blink twice beeping along with it then stay on blue. Another thing, in other ESCs I notice anytime you go out of neutral the solid light goes out until you hit full brake, Full reverse or full throttle. The blue light stays on unchanged the whole time. I don't know if it is normal or not, just noticed the difference from previous systems.

The card only programs the battery type and if you want reverse enabled or not. You have to program the esc using the quick setup button on the esc itself and calibrate the throttle and brake with the radio. It sounds like your esc wasn't programmed fully.

I did set it up through the ESC setup button following the directions in the manual. After calibrating the ESC I programed the other settings using the card. I still had the symptoms. I even repeated the entire setup process several times thinking I may have screwed it up. Still no go...no matter what.

Alright, then that does sound like a faulty esc. I'd go to your lhs and ask them to diagnose the setup with spare parts of theirs. I'd first assume the esc is bad (which can happen out of the box) but i'd check the motor leads (going into the motor can) to see if they are loose or damaged (which happened to me). Accelerate a bit and wiggle the wires going into the motor can, if the motor wants to turn over better at a certain spot the wires are damaged and it's just the motor you'll need to send back. Hopefully this saves you some grief on pinpointing the problem. Either way it's a new setup and I completely get how you are upset.

I appreciate the helpful tips. I have tried messing with the wires during throttle play to see if I could pin point a problem wire but it didn't seem to help. I bought the system from an eBay vendor new and don't get much help from the local lhs. They are more interested in telling me I am dumb for wanting to go brushless. I will give Horizon a call Monday to maybe troubleshoot it via telephone and see what happens.

Has anyone delt with the shipping issue during a warranty repair? I'll talk to them about that too.

Again thanks for the help. I'll look into the lhs to see but am doubtful in their abilities to want to help.

Sounds like a pretty ignorant hs... I don't blame you for shopping online then.

I bought the combo from lhs, installed it had the stutter thats metioned. I called horizon and they sent me a new combo now the new esc wont even turn the motor over.Really pisses me off ,Can't we get a random drug test on whoever is putting this crap together Losi?I've tried 3 different radios and multiple recievers, set endpoints multiple times on both systems and my conclusion is these esc's are crap.

I don't believe it is likey you have 2 bad ESC, rather they may be an issue with a different component, or the setup procedure. If I could be there, it would be easy to help. Have you tried to call Horizon Customer Support?
